SLB Flex FAQs

That depends on what you choose. With SLB Flex, you choose based on what you need. If you have high health care needs, you may want to choose comprehensive coverage available with the highest option. If your health care needs are low, you may want to choose a lower option and use any excess flex dollars from your Health Spending Account to pay for expenses as they occur. SLB provides enough flex dollars to fully pay for Option 2 for both extended health care and dental. This includes coverage for yourself and/or one or more dependents. If you choose elevated levels of benefits such as Option 3 for extended health care or dental, or optional benefits, you will need to cover the additional premiums with payroll deductions. The online enrollment tool will calculate and show how much your flex dollars are, how much each plan/option costs and how much you need to cover with payroll deductions. Play with the tool and determine what's right for you and your family.

Yes. SLB Flex allows you to cover your dependents. You can choose to cover just yourself, yourself plus one dependent, such as your legally married or common-law spouse/partner or child, or yourself plus two or more dependents, such as your spouse/partner plus any eligible children you may have. Eligible children include your natural child, adopted child or stepchild. You can read a detailed description of dependents in your SLB Flex Guide 2024.

If you and your spouse/partner both have medical and dental "family" benefits, or if you are covered for similar benefits under two separate plans, you can use your plans to maximize the amount of money you get back for your health or dental claims. This is called Coordination of Benefits. To coordinate benefits, one insurance plan pays part of the claim and usually the balance is processed by the other plan. As such, if you are covered under two plans, you will have a potentially greater benefit than if you were covered under only one plan. You can read more about Coordination of Benefits and what the rules are based on under Using Your Benefits > Coordination of Benefits.
Please login to your Sun Life account and go to the Coordination of Benefits permission page to change the authorization for COB e-claims.
When you experience a life event, (such as marriage, birth or adoption, or if your spouse/partner gains or loses their benefits coverage) you will have 30 days to go online to register the life event and re-enroll. Please login to My Benefits Portal, click 'Enroll' under 'Need to make a life event change’. Select the preferred Flex Dental and Health plan and check or uncheck the box indicating that the dependent(s) are covered under another plan. Confirm selections.
