Major life changes—such as getting married, entering a common-law relationship, separating, or divorcing—can affect your personal records and benefits coverage.
Consider whether your benefits needs may also change. Please review the Life Change Checklist to ensure your coverage and records reflect your current situation.

Life Change Checklist
- Decide what changes you want to make to your benefits, as allowed.
- Update your Flex Benefits coverage by declaring a “Life Event” through the Flex Benefits Enrollment website within 30 days of the change.
- Re-assess your retirement and savings goals or financial plan for retirement.
- Review the Resources page for quick access to Sun Life Financial advisor and Retirement planning services.
- Consider whether you need to make changes to beneficiaries
- For Life, and Accident insurance coverage changes to your insurance beneficiaries can be made on the Flex Benefits Enrollment website at any time.
- For Retirement and Savings Products beneficiaries can be made on mySunlife.ca at any time.
- For your Discounted Stock Purchase Plan go to MyShares, select the Access my Stock – Fidelity page to update your beneficiaries.
- Update your mailing address on PeopleConnect, if needed.
- Update your marital status on PeopleConnect.
- Use your EAP benefits for help with the financial, legal and emotional issues related to a change in marital status.
Flex Benefits Choices
With Flex Benefits, you can change your benefit choices and dependents each autumn during the annual enrollment period. You also can change your choices during the year if you experience a life event, such as marriage, birth or adoption, or if your spouse loses his or her benefits coverage. You will have 30 days after a life event to go online to register the life event and re-enroll through the Flex Benefits Enrollment website. Otherwise, you can change your benefits and update your dependents only during the annual enrollment period.
