Welcoming a New Addition

Learn how to update your benefits when your family grows through birth or adoption.

Birth or Adoption

Congratulations on the birth or adoption of your child. Our enhanced Maternity and Parental Leave program is specially designed to help you balance the demands of your career and a growing family!

SLB Global Parenting App

Parenting@SLB helps employees, managers and HR manage the parental leave process at SLB.

Click on the sections below for more information.

Company-Paid Benefits

SLB provides new parents with either paid Maternity leave OR paid Paternity leave. Employees eligible for the paid Maternity leave will get 16 consecutive calendar weeks of base pay salary through Company payroll. Employees eligible for the paid Paternity leave are entitled to 8 calendar weeks of paid leave inclusive of normal days off. Paternity leave can be taken in one continuous period or in up to four smaller increments. However, the schedule should be agreed to by the manager and employee, and the leave must be taken within one year of the child’s arrival.

Employment Insurance Benefits

In addition to the SLB paid leave, the Government of Canada provides additional maternity and parental benefits through Employment insurance (EI). More information on these benefits can be found at EI Maternity and Parental Benefits.

Employees are required to use the Parenting@SLB app to notify both the manager and local HR of intent to take leave as far in advance as possible, but not less than six weeks before the beginning of the desired SLB Paid Leave. The following information is collected in the app:

  • The type of leave(s) you are applying for
  • The expected date of birth / placement
  • Any vacation days planned immediately prior to leave
  • Maternity Leave
    • Start and End Date(s) of SLB Paid Maternity Leave
    • Start Date of Provincial Unpaid Leave
    • Expected Return Date (Optional)
  • Parental Leave
    • Start and End Date(s) of SLB Paid Paternity Leave
    • If you plan to take any Provincial Unpaid Leave and when
  • Supporting documentation such as a doctor’s note, medical certificate, adoption paperwork etc. if required.

Please see the Canada Maternity and Parental Leave Policy for more information
